FEATURES & AMENITIES

There is nothing else available north of Auckland with this level of quality, environmental ambience, security, on-site amenity and coastal beauty.

Paewhenua features:

  • 26 residential house sites in a secure rural coastal environment
  • Sealed internal roads
  • A 13 hectare vineyard
  • A jetty with a floating pontoon and an all-tide boat ramp
  • A boat storage area
  • Future tennis court
  • 80 hectares of covenanted bush and open pastoral land
  • A restored wetland

Every site is north-facing, with all-day sun and harbour views: by day, this takes in the harbour and the surrounding hills; at night you can see the lights of Mangonui township. The 26 sites, arranged across 110 hectares have been designed with views and privacy in mind. This is a return to traditional modes of coastal living, not the patchwork quilt approach that would have resulted from a standard subdivision.

Original and regenerating native trees include coastal broadleaf species (pohutukawa, karaka, puriri) as well as manuka and kanuka groves. Together with the pastoral land and vineyard the island presents what landscape architect Dennis Scott calls “a mixed patina of parkland and production.”

Owners will enjoy the numerous recreational amenities of the island and the surrounding area:

  • Fishing - whether it be from a "tinny" on the inner harbour, a runabout in Doubtless Bay, surfcasting at a local beach or deepwater gamefishing out of Whangaroa
  • Kayaking - directly from the island to explore the harbour, Doubtless Bay or the upper reaches of the Oruaiti river
  • Water skiing and wakeboarding - the harbour provides an ideal sheltered area
  • Sailing - whether it be sailing in a Laser in the harbour, on a keel boat as part of the Mangonui racing fleet or just cruising out of Mangonui or Whangaroa and if you want to stay dry try land yachting at Tokerau or 90mile beaches
  • Surfing - a great selection of east or west coast beaches depending on the swell and if you need to learn there is the surf school in Taupo Bay
  • Windsurfing - either in the flat water of the harbour or off the ocean beaches such as Tokerau beach now a mecca for kite surfing
  • Golfing - a choice of the local Whangaroa Golf Club, the spectacular links course at Carrington Club on the Karikari Peninsula, the world renowned Kauri Cliffs (just half an hour away for a special day out), or the popular Kerikeri, Kaitaia and Waitangi courses
  • Other outdoor activities - all at your doorstep whether it be mountain biking, tramping, hunting or otherwise enjoying the great outdoor environment available in the Far North
